Awards Season – All Dressed Up

It’s the season for dressing up. With award events, balls and conference cocktails you want to be sure you’re not committing a fashion faux pas.

So let me decipher the dress code for Black Tie.

Black Tie or Formal

The look is elegant and chic. Expect a black tie dress code at prestigious award ceremonies, corporate balls and major industry events.  As a Sydney Stylist I am disheartened when people don’t go to the effort to dress up, it’s fun and it gives your confidence a boost.

DO: Think a long evening gown or a short knee-length cocktail gown that’s distinctly for wearing in the evening. Think silk, satin, lace, sequins or such like the Jane Daniels Euro Fringed Tulle evening gown above.

It’s all about the Shoes!  Embellish with glamorous accessories and an evening pump (whatever your little heart desires) with a small evening bag.

DON’T: A structured tailored day dress, suit or top and skirt in cotton, stripes or patterns.

DO: The look is classic, debonair and sophisticated.  A tuxedo makes any man look like James Bond.  A black lounge or dinner suit is also fine with a white or ivory shirt and black tie.

DON’T: A formal affair is not the time to go without a tie or the new ‘sans’ socks look.
