La Dolce Vita

The Italian Art of Nonchalance

Italian men are the best-dressed men in the world, without a doubt. They have effortless style down to a tee with their flawless fashion sense and immaculate grooming.   What Australian men fail to grasp is it’s all in the detail, it takes thought and time.

The first style rule I learnt was Italians take great pride in their appearance.  Their hair is worn longer and is always freshly washed.

They love to shop and believe the right shoes are everything. A clean, well kept, and well made pair of shoes can make all the difference to how your outfit comes together. It’s all in the detail.

As a Men’s Stylist I love how they fuse separates, timeless silhouettes and details with such ease. Whether it’s a shirt cuff turned back over their jacket, shoes worn sans socks or a looser tie knot, they look cool.

Italian men ooze sophistication with their dressed down look that combines subdued shades of sand and stone with pale blue and navy.  Their staples are white trousers, a cotton or linen jacket, a pale blue shirt and a woven silk tie.

And they wear the clothes, their clothes don’t wear them.

Men on the Beach – Italy SS17

Swimwear is an important part of any man’s wardrobe and for the Italian man even more so. They accessorise with such ease using espadrilles, boat shoes, backpacks and jackets in fabulous co-ordination.

SS17 shows a strong trend for blues, bright green, yellow and red in

  • flowers, plants and tropical prints
  • classic polka dots and
  • stripes of varying sizes.

As a Men’s Stylist I always recommend you choose a style and colour that resonates with you, your age and shape including

  • low waist tight shorts
  • board shorts or
  • the classic boxer.
