Does the New Baggy Look For Men Work?

Tuesday, March 22, 2011

International fashion houses have introduced more relaxed cuts for men for Autumn Winter 2011.  Calvin Klein, Dior Homme, Thom Browne and Yves Saint-Laurent are showing full pleated pants, roomy jodhpurs, oversized jackets and flowing shirts and coats.

But guys be warned, these are only for the fashion forward and those men with a tall and slim silhouette.  The more streamlined look in clothing is much more flattering to a man's physique.  Flat front pants, tailored jackets and a well cut and fitted shirt reign supreme.

Men Hate Shopping!

Saturday, September 11, 2010
Research reveals that Men subjected to extended shopping trips suffer from spikes in their blood pressure.

Men like to 'shop with a mission', let's buy it and then go home.  Women on the otherhand like to window shop, and consider, would it suit me, it does look stylish but do I need it etc.

Men grab the first item, and want to be in and out in 20 minutes.

Most importantly Men don't return from a shopping trip empty handed.

Style that Stands the Test of Time

Friday, June 25, 2010

David Jones’s new chief executive, Paul Zahra must be onto a good thing!  Zahra’s suits are from luxury maker Zegna which is celebrating its centenary this year.  In northern Italy in 1910 Ermenegildo Zegna began weaving cloth to compete with those on London’s Saville Row.

Today Zegna uses the best Australian wool, spun finer than cashmere so they behave like nature, ie a suit will cool and warm as you do.  The springiness of Zegna’s suits, allow you to unpack them ready to wear straight to a meeting.

Let’s hope Zahra follows the same principles of substance and style as designer Zegna!

Professional image is well suited

Tuesday, June 22, 2010
David Jones 's new chief executive, Paul Zahra is well suited, his suit is Zegna, his shirt Saba and his shoes Prada.   Zahra states his image is highly principled and has strong values.

To project a professional image, you need to look and act the part.  Nothing looks more professional than a good tailored suit.  Some key tips to choosing the right suit for you.
  • How many buttons?  Utlimately you want the style that compliments your shape.  Two button suits are in vogue, classic and suit everyone.  One button suits are only for slim men.
  • Look for a great fit.  The suit should fit you perfectly across the shoulders.
  • Single or double breasted?  Single breasted looks great on big boys, double breasted on slender men.
  • What colour?  Stick to the classics, navy or charcoal.
  • Vents?  Vents allow greater movement of the body, choose from centre or double vents.
  • Cuffs?  Suits with a slimmer silhouette look better without them.

Revel in your new professional image.  For more help consult a personal stylist.

Men's Hats are Back

Friday, September 11, 2009
Hats are making a comeback in Australia as men gain confidence in their sense of style.  Young men see guys wearing them on MasterChef, Australian Idol and So You Think You Can Dance and think they're cool.  Also guys are more into accessories now, and want to wear them to the races, to get a little bit of an edge, to feel smarter.

Most popular are the Trilby, made popular by Sean Connery in Dr No and the Fedora worn by Harrison Ford.  Other styles being worn include the Flat Cap in tweed as worn by Justin Timberlake and the Pork Pie worn in a straw version by Robbie Williams.

Guys should remember the etiquette for hats, never wear them indoors and always dip your hat when you greet a lady!

The Art of Shaving

Monday, July 20, 2009
What's old is new again.  Today's men are returning to what their fathers and grandfathers always did, shave with a safety razor.  Men are discovering that  you get a better shave and it's better for your skin.  In the long run it's cheaper as the cost of safety razor blades are much less than cartridge razors.

So guys throw away your disposal cartridge razor and learn the art of shaving with a safety razor and a badger hair brush.  Why not indulge in a pastime and take pride in your impeccable grooming.

Don't forget to always shave after a hot shower, use a shaving cream, use less pressure with your razor, and ensure your razor is sharpened.

Watch the women line up to get closer!
