Jewellery Box - Glam Drops

Chandelier earrings are all the rage. It must be the Oscars. I was delighted to find my 'Baroness' earrings from the Emma Page jewellery collection featured in the Sun Herald on 22 February. They're gorgeous yellow stones which come in gold or silver and priced at $55.

Stylish Chic – Making the Effort to Look Great

Are there some days you don't have the energy to look great. You know, you wake up late, you're tired, your wardrobe is a mess and nothing fits. Your solution, take the time to plan the night before. It's all about thinking through your outfit. Some tips:

  • Check the weather forecast - Do you need a jacket or umbrella?
  • What is the dress code for the day? Do you have a special meeting or luncheon?
  • Do you need prior preparation, wash your hair, manicure, or take a pair of comfy shoes to change into?
  • Do you need to iron your outfit?
  • Which accessories will you wear? Less is more, only wear one statement piece eg. necklace, tie, jacket or scarf.
  • Wear one colour that looks great on you eg. red, cobalt blue, pink, emerald green or turquoise.
  • Dress so you feel like a million dollars, when you look great, you feel great and your day will be too. For more tips contact robin@definingstyle.com.au

New Season - Where to Start?

As a brand new season kicks in, the time is perfect to assess what you have and what you need.

  • Get rid of anything that doesn't fit.
  • Check condition of your shoes, wear them out or get rid of them.
  • Note: A new style of shoe can update your wardrobe instantly.
  • Invest in jewellery costume or fine. One statement piece will take your wardrobe a long way.

Autumn Take - Embracing Lace

If you thought lace was just for brides, grandmothers and girly girls, think again. The latest take on this captivating fabric whether it's webbing and delicate, or rich and dense is unmistakably modern. The rules for modern lace:

  • The tone is sensuous.
  • Loosen things up by combining with tailored pieces, try a lace top under a suit for work or with dark jeans at night.
  • Pick streamlined shapes, a pencil skirt or elegant pants.
  • Think accents, a Miss Pepe black lace shoe (www.peeptoeshoes.com.au) a delicate collar, a dainty bag (Olga Berg) or a feminine scarf, all over lace is too fussy.
  • Be cautious with colour. Pastels, classics or neutrals are hyper feminine, whilst bright colours look cheap.

Beauty Bar – The Perfect Brow

Don't get too close to the mirror when you pluck your brow. You lose perspective and can end up creating too much space between them. The most flattering brow shape starts directly above the inner corners of your eyes; an exaggerated gap creates a scowling effect. Keep your distance from the mirror and preserve your eye's symmetry. Men - Style Tips

  • Wearing the same shoes day in and day out will drastically shorten their life span.
  • Wooden shoe trees are great, but you need only one pair. Put them in the shoes you've been wearing all day. The shoe will contract as it cools over the shape of the tree and return to its original form. Within an hour or two the tree has done its job.
  • Wet shoes should be dried in a warm place - near an oven, not in it. But be careful, rapid drying can irreversibly crack the leather.
  • Never be rushed into purchasing uncomfortable shoes, no matter how shiny the leather.
  • Broaden your colour wheel. Colours that men actually look good in, though they don't realize is pink, turquoise and coral (only one item of clothing at a time please).
  • Always check hues of green, brown and blue in day-light before purchasing. What's navy under fluorescent light can look purple in sunlight.
  • Your tie's tip should just reach your waistband.
  • Your tie knot should always conceal the collar band behind it. If it doesn't, it's tied too loose.
  • Check your fly before answering the door!
