In breaking news, I'm honoured to be the Sydney Style Guru for the Women on Boards Professional Development Program. As part of the Women on Boards Way, suite of professional development initiatives, 'Getting There - My Style' is the fourth in the series. My role is to assist women refine their personal brand and image, when they seek board positions.

Women - Dress to Your Body Shape - Rectangle
The Rectangle body shape is a common body shape for women who have little or no waist definition. Some Hourglass figures can become a Rectangle with weight gain or maturity. The illusion of balance can be achieved by shoulder pads, colour blocking (to create the illusion of a waist), open single breasted jackets, vests, soft fabric tops and matching skirts or pants.
To dress for a Rectangle shape:
Classic Style - Trouser suit with the jacket worn open. stylish shirt and high heeled pumps
80's Feel - Dress or jacket with peaked and padded shoulders embellished with studs
Rock Chic - Colour blocking with black jeans, leather jacket and sequined tee
Feminine Fatale - Blouse with vertical frills worn over pencil skirt and accessorise with layers of long pearls and chains.
Men - Dress to Your Body Shape - Rectangle
The Rectangle body shape is very straight and may be the result of a thickened abdomen. This is a common shape among men and one that comes with weight gain and aging. The Rectangle is the third shape in the diagram to the right.
To dress for a Rectangle shape:
Corporate - Wear a single breasted suit (well cut to fit the body) with two or three buttons, and shoulder pads. Pinstripes will lengthen and slim the body
Casual and Weekend Wear - Colour blocking will give a better shaped torso ie. allow colour to flow through the body from top to toe with a jacket, jumper or shirt that is a similar colour and shade to your pants. Avoid wearing light coloured chinos with a dark coloured jacket or shirt which will make you appear shorter and thicker.
