Men - Stylish Cuff Links

Cuff links date from the 17th century during the time of King Charles ll, and have been a statement of personality and status every since. Most modern guys have adopted this trend to individualise their look. Distinguished jewellers, Fairfax & Roberts has created a salon devoted to a collection of hand-made cuff links. The stylish collection is fashioned in silver and enamel, jewel, gold and platinum designs. This sumptuous Sydney showroom houses cuff links priced from $650 to $55,000.

For a more modest price you can find stylish cuff links at your favourite department or men's store.

Your Valentine

If you're looking for the best, Tiffany & Co has many beautiful designs which come in their signature little blue box (prices on application). You could also consider a pair of stunning Aquamarine earrings from Holloway Diamonds priced at $2965.

If Romeo is being a tad more cautious this year, he could consider a beautiful Wisteria necklace for $62 or Tuxedo earrings for $39 for his Juliet. All jewellery is available in gold plated for warm tones and rhodium plated for cool tones. Contact Robin for more details at robin@definingstyle.com.au

Belts - How to Wear Them

Belts and waists are all the go for the coming Autumn season but how do you find a look that suits you. Some rules:

  • The ideal figure to wear a belt is slim and boyish.
  • Rectangle shapes and larger waists can look heavier (Robin take note).
  • Short waisted girls can look heavier.
  • Long waisted and curvy girls can exaggerate their bottom.
  • If you wear a belt with jeans, tuck your top in and wear lower waist jeans.
  • If you wear a belt with a long top, keep your skirt or pants narrow.
  • Your best option is a narrow belt which adds definition to your waist without looking too squashed and add heels for height.
  • Only wear a belt of a contrasting colour if you want people to look at your waist, otherwise tone the colour of your belt with your outfit.

Brides - Fantasy Frock

Your wedding is the one occasion you can afford to splurge on a gorgeous dreamy frock however it must be flattering. The traditional Princess bridal dress is making a comeback with many brides loving the frothy tulle look to walk down the aisle. Other trends include asymmetrical shoulder detail, cinched in waists and draped Grecian style gowns. To ensure your shape looks its best choose a style to suit your body shape. If you have a pear or triangle shaped figure opt for a soft straight or A line skirt. Busty girls keep your bodice simple; leave the rhinestone or pearl embellishments for your skirt. Robin Powis

" I just turned another year older. For my birthday, my OH arranged for me to have a couple of sessions with a wise lady called Robin Powis, a personal image stylist. Her business is called Defining Style. In the first session, she does a colour analysis to work out which colours make you look your best, and measures you up. The second session identifies your body shape and what styles of clothes you should and shouldn't wear.

Some of it of course comes as no surprise - e.g. I know I look bad in brown and that ballet flats are a bad idea for someone as short as I am. But it's really great to get new ideas and know confidently what (and what not) to buy. I really have very little interest in fashion, but of course I want to look as good as I can. Like it or not, it's important for your career and your social life."
