In the Swim

Although being at the beach during the holiday season is time to relax, there is nothing more off putting than saggy swimmers or men in sluggos. When dressing for the beach, it's about being cool, stylish and comfortable. And there's no excuse, as the fashion houses have swimsuits to suit all shapes and sizes.

Our Aussie designers are also taking a lead from the Miami Swim in the US with a fashion week from 25-28 February 2009 at Sanctuary Cove.

GIRLS

  • Small bust - wear ruffles or gathering on the bust, halterneck or thin straps
  • Large bust - wear cup inserts, wide straps and v neckline
  • Look slimmer - wear a cross over, draping or diagonal pattern to divert attention away from bulges
  • Oz Resort at Mosman and Bondi have a great selection of many designers like Seafolly and Sunseeker.
  • The Big Swim at Warringah Mall, Bondi and Manly offer many brands including Claire Powell resortwear from natural eco-friendly fibres. Other brands include 2chillies swimwear.

A polo shirt always looks stylish, choose one in your best colour. If in doubt have a Colour Reinvention www.definingstyle.com.au/men A Henley shirt is much more now than a plain t shirt, try a lemon Cambridge Stripe Henley.

If you want to look trimmer, wear a striped shirt, they also look great on any mere male. Brands include Gazman, Tommy Hilfinger, Blazer and Nautica.

Sales Survival Tips

If you've been smart you probably have been taking advantage of the great reductions retailers have been offering since October. If you can't resist the sales or have some Christmas money to spend, here are some guidelines.

  • Research. Research. Research. Consider your summer wardrobe and where there are gaps. Do you need basic staples or accessories to update your look. By now you should have tried on all last season's clothes and know what needs replacing. If not, do it now. Don't approach the sales without a shopping list.
  • Plan your shopping list in priority order. You want to get value for your money. Check out any must have items now to gauge prices before the sale starts.
  • Buy items that can be worn again next season. Any expensive item should last at least five years.
  • Never buy a garment you haven't tried on. You don' want to waste valuable time returning it.
  • Only buy a garment or accessory that looks fantastic on you, otherwise its not a bargain.

Shopping Buy - Egyptian Cotton Shirts

Herringbone has reductions on well-cut, business shirts for men and women using Italian-made Egyptian cotton. Distinguished for their detail and beautiful styling, Herringbone stores can be found in the City, Chatswood and Woollahra.
