Recession – Invest in Yourself

While we cannot control the economy we can control our response and make the most of these times. Instead of spreading gloom and doom why not do our bit to do the best we can.

As we experience tight economic times we need to remember that now is the time to make every dollar count. As jobs get easier to lose remember your image may be the very thing that makes or breaks you.

The key rules to remember are:

  • make every clothing purchase count
  • do your research and
  • invest wisely

Invest in yourself!

Recession Buster – Swapping Clothes

Swap My Style is the latest trend among the seriously style savvy.

It's old news to many of us that swapping clothes among friends is a great way to update and refresh your wardrobe without spending a cent. I have a group of girlfriends and we do this regularly. They, I think probably come out of it better than me, but who cares. What a great way to move your wardrobe on without feeling guilty.

But what if you could swap with women everywhere, of all shapes and sizes, with all kinds of eclectic tastes? Think of the possibilities! That's what 'Swap My Style' has done, with the creation of ladies swap nights. Swap My Style events allow you to swap fashion items that you no longer wear. Wow, what a way to upgrade, update and refresh your wardrobe!

And best of all, you are not only limiting the volume of clothes that end up in landfill, but save energy, materials, packaging and transport that would go into the creation of a new garment. Go to www.swapmystyle.com.au to find out details of the next event.

Shoes – Balancing Act

Is it a sign of the times that while the world is contemplating an unstable economy, fashion designers are promoting massive instability with the height of women's shoes?

Towering heels are providing a precarious balancing act with these scary creations.

It used to be the handbag was the must have item, however dizzy height heels, heel-less heels and even shoeless heels are making a huge hit on the catwalk.

Victoria Beckham promoted this trend recently with her heel-less thigh high boots that caused such a stir. Estimated at around A$7,260, it makes you wonder what price celebrities could eventually pay. I know we all like to look great, but how far do you go!

Chiropractors and podiatrists warn that the shoes will create massive instability, tremendous pain and can cause permanent injury. These services could certainly become the most wanted health service for celebrities and models alike.

Underwear Trends – Breast Screening Smart Bra

A breast-screening smart bra which allows users to detect breast cancer at the earliest stage is being developed by the Centre for Materials Research and Innovation at the University of Bolton. The bra can detect cancer before the tumour develops and spread into the surrounding areas. It can also evaluate the effectiveness of any breast cancer treatment its wearer is undergoing.

The bra is being developed internationally and it is expected to go into manufacture within the next couple of years. The smart bra works using a microwave antennae system device which can be easily woven into the fabric of the bra.
